Inertia

Inertia is one of those things that, as I keep mentioning, drives me (nuts - and others too). Which is why I write three posts some week and then none for a while...
I have also been busy. Work - yes I work too you know and a jolly sight more regularly than back in grad school. To paraphrase, that keeps me busy and my mind off the devil's work. Not that I am sure what the devil's work is, but now I am just rambling.
So I managed to attend the first of four sessions of a beginners' level Thai cooking class. The students are an eclectic mix of Bay Area people, a little noisy and we seem to love food, and did really well in the kitchen. I know cause we cooked for three hours and then turned aorund and had a lovely dinner party with the stuff we had cooked. Yummy! (A wink goes out to Priya)
I also went to see Salaam Namaste at the Naz8 in Fremont yesterday. Now why didnt anybody mention that it is a masalafied, khichried remix of the Hugh Grant starrer Nine Months? The idea strangely enough takes on a freshness in the desi context but on the whole, a B- it is. Maybe a B for keeping the family jing-bang-lot out of the story and Javed Jaffery is just hilarious, "When in Rome, do the Romans" indeed, hah.
Ok, nothing else to write about except that I drove on the Bay Bridge for the first time, fairly eventlessly.
Update: See this review by eeesh! to get a better idea of what I meant about Salaam Namaste. She says it with a great deal more verve than I did!

Oooooo, you are taking classes with Kasma Loha-unchit? That's freaking cool! I love Kasma's website. Is she a good teacher? I'd love to take classes with her, I'm so jealous of you.

Yes, yes, yes, she is amazing! She really gets into the concepts of whatever we do and its just a totally party class. Its just like getting together with a bunch of friends and cooking and having a dinner party! Kasma told us we were the most talkative group she had, heh!

Oh, and I got into the class completely by chance. I was actually on the waiting list as all her classes are perpetually full. It just so happened that two of them had to drop out (a couple, the husband is a fireman who got sent to NOLA!) on the morning the current sequence started. Kasma sent out an email to the waiting list and I signed up in like 2 minutes! Good thing I obsessively check my email, hmm?

Hey! Granted that Saif can't match up to HG's uber-nerdy-cool persona, but I thought it was a pretty neat movie. (Tough call between Preity and Julianne Moore, though - I so love that dimple)

One of the very few Hindi movies I've seen that did a neat wrap, there were some good lines, fairly credible. Preity's shrieking in the latter part did jar (although I'm told that's par for a hassled pregnant woman) and Abhishek was wasted.

J Alfred da, I see what you are saying, but my reaction was more of a gut thing in that I could not get into the story and empathize with the main characters, although not for the reasons one might think.

You saw SN? eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek. Yes, apparently 'tis a lift from 9M, not that that one's the epitome of good cinema either. But Julianne Moore. Siigghhh...

You know what you should really do for entertainment is to go and find some of Bollywood's classic C-grade releases. They are a lot better than mainstream Bollywood - from a funny POV that is. Fantasy dekhna hai to total fantasy hi dekho na?

And various other terrible imprecations in the nazgul tongue. I am NOT to be called orc, or any inflections thereof.
Now about PZ. Agreed, but she can't hold a candle to JM. Now, if only she wasn't old enough to be my great-grandmother. siiiighh. Then again, I should perhpaps take heart from Ashton Kutcher's example.
